Cardiology is the specialty that deals with assessing and treating conditions of the heart. The heart is a hollow, muscular organ which is the "pump" of the circulatory system. Many procedures and diagnostic exams are available within the department to aid in evaluating and diagnosing cardiac problems. We offer a Lipid Clinic to assist you in managing your cholesterol level. For patients taking the medication Coumadin (blood thinner), we provide a Coumadin Clinic, which supervises your Coumadin and blood levels. Your primary care provider or family doctor will determine if an appointment with a cardiologist would benefit in the management of your problem. Our heart doctors will see patients ages 18 and above. Contact our offices today to schedule an appointment with our heart doctor!

Signs It’s Time to See a Heart Doctor

Heart disease is the leading cause of death throughout the world. It is sometimes difficult to spot the early signs of a potential problem, but the consequences can be deadly. Keep your eyes open for potential risk factors and symptoms; if you notice any of these, it’s worth a call to a heart doctor for further investigation.

  • Chest Pain: Chest pain is one of the most common signs of a heart issue. If you notice chest pressure that occurs or worsens with activity, this is cause for concern; it could be a sign that your heart isn’t getting enough blood. Urgent chest pain can also be a sign of a heart attack. If you suspect that you are having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
  • High Blood Pressure: Blood pressure is the force of the blood as it pushes against your artery walls. If your blood pressure is elevated, it causes the heart to work harder, increasing your risk of stroke or heart attack.
  • Diabetes: There is a strong correlation between heart disease and diabetes; your blood sugar levels affect how your blood vessels function, increasing your risk for heart disease.
  • High Cholesterol: Cholesterol is a fatty substance that can be found in various foods. High cholesterol can contribute to plaque in the arteries, forcing your heart to work harder and increasing your risk.
  • Shortness of Breath: If you’re experiencing frequent shortness of breath, dizziness, or heart palpitations, reach out to our heart doctor. We will examine you to see if a heart condition might be the cause.

If you exhibit any combination of these risk factors, making some changes can help lower your risk of experiencing a heart problem. Our heart doctor can help you determine your next steps.
